Forking out lavish sums on full-backs was one of the recurring themes of Manchester City’s transfer window. Not only did they set a new record fee for a full-back by bringing in Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, but they also spent a similar sum on Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy, whilst acquiring Real Madrid’s Danilo somewhere in between.
The 29-cap England international started the season as Pep Guardiola’s first choice on the right-hand side, but a controversial sending off against Everton for a challenge on Dominic Calvert-Lewin saw the Brazilian, who Transfermarkt value at £16.2million, take his place against Bournemouth prior to the international break and grab an assist in the dramatic 2-1 win.
With that in mind, we asked Manchester City fans earlier this week who should start on the right of defence, whether as a wing-back or full-back, for the Premier League clash with Liverpool on Saturday.
And while 32% believe Danilo deserves to keep his place, it was Walker who surged ahead in our poll with a whopping 68% of the vote. But does the 27-year-old have what it takes to nullify Sadio Mane’s huge threat on the counter-attack? Let us know by commenting below…
