Swansea boss Graham Potter should make a move to sign centre-back and free-agent Robert Huth in order to bolster his defensive options.

What’s the situation?

It was a summer of change at Swansea as former Ostersunds manager Potter took over from Carlos Carvalhal and started overhauling the squad to prepare for their return to the Championship. The new boss made six signings in total and offloaded 14 players on either permanent or temporary deals.

The Swans’ summer business had a clear focus on adding young and talented players to the squad.

Swansea currently sit in seventh place in the second tier of English football after their first six games yielded 11 points from three wins and two draws.

Adding experience

Potter’s current first choice centre-back pairing is Mike van der Hoorn and 20-year-old Joe Rodon, with 19-year-old Brandon Cooper and 21-year-old Cian Harries being utilised in the cup games and loanee Cameron Carter-Vickers yet to make an appearance after joining the club later in the window.

Huth at 34-years-old then would be able to mentor some of the younger defenders at the Liberty Stadium and would inject some much needed experience into the Swansea squad as they attempt to challenge for promotion straight back to the Premier League.

The former Germany international has 19 caps for his country and is a three-time Premier League winner, twice during his time at Chelsea and then once in incredible circumstances with Leicester, where he departed at the end of last season.
